Managing Director Chris Goodfellow Joins Team GB for the 2025 One Water Race – The World’s Toughest Endurance Challenge

Carli Goodfellow

When it comes to pushing the limits of human endurance, few races compare to the One Water Race. This brutal test of physical and mental strength sees athletes tackle 250 km of continuous running and open-water swimming across Sweden’s unforgiving Stockholm Archipelago.

In 2025, our Managing Director, Chris Goodfellow, will be at the start line—competing as part of Team 4 – Great Britain.

The Challenge of a Lifetime

Imagine running six consecutive marathons, scrambling over rocky islands, navigating through complete darkness, and swimming through strong currents in the open sea. No set course, no rest, and no way to prepare for the unknown checkpoints along the way. The One Water Race isn’t just about speed or endurance—it’s about resilience, strategy, and survival.

With a $100,000 prize fund, the race attracts some of the best endurance athletes in the world. Only ten elite teams are selected each year, each consisting of three racers (including at least one athlete of each sex) and a support crew based on a safety boat. The team must navigate their way to the finish line at Landsort using only their own planning, teamwork, and grit.

Meet Team 4 – Great Britain

Chris joins an exceptional team of world-class endurance racers, each bringing an impressive background in extreme endurance sports:

Rhian Roxburgh (Llandudno, GBR) – A dominant force in triathlon and swimrun, Rhian has taken multiple European and World Age Group Triathlon Championship titles, smashed course records, and proven herself in some of the toughest endurance events on the circuit.

Gaz Roberts (Portsmouth, GBR) – With a background that includes Marathon Des Sables (one of the hardest ultra-marathons on the planet), multiple Ironman races, and podium finishes in extreme endurance challenges, Gaz thrives when the going gets tough.

Mike Alexander (Aberdyfi, GBR) – A swimrun veteran, Mike has competed in the Ötillö World Championships and numerous world-series events. His navigation and long-distance racing experience will be vital for the team’s strategy.

Chris Goodfellow (Oxford, GBR) – A veteran of over 25 Ironman distance triathlons, including three sub-9-hour finishes. Chris has competed in the Ötillö Swimrun World Championships multiple times and has broken course records in events like the Hokey Cokey Roseland Swimrun. His ability to sustain high performance under extreme fatigue will be crucial in this race.

“I Have Never Started Anything I Wasn’t Sure I Could Finish. Until Now.”

Chris has spent years competing at the highest levels of endurance racing, but even for him, the One Water Race is a new beast.

Great Britain

The team has been training together since January 2024, preparing for every possible scenario. But in a race like this, nothing is guaranteed. With no pre-determined route, navigation errors or bad weather can change the game in an instant.

Beyond the physical challenge, the One Water Race is dedicated to raising awareness for global water conservation efforts. The race serves as a platform to highlight the importance of protecting the world’s oceans and waterways, aligning with Chris’s passion for endurance sports in nature.

With race day set for August 19-21, 2025, the countdown is on. Over the coming months, we’ll be following Chris and Team 4 – Great Britain as they prepare for one of the toughest endurance races on the planet.
